biography

Where there is mayhem and madness, DJ Archie is conspicuous as the very devilish DJ of dance. Ranking at #5 for the state’s ITM50, Archie’s talents have also been recognised by his ever adoring fans for the ITM50 both statewide and nationally. With his popularity balanced alongside his secure production skills, DJ Archie’s vicious beats have been heard across global and national stages. His anarchic beats, animated yet emotive melodies, tight mixes and acute scratching skills have earned Archie a reputation across the nation as the DJ who can smash dancefloors and warp frequencies.

Born and bred in the colder climes of Canberra amongst funk and rock, it was the beats of hiphop that nevertheless first caught Archie’s attention. Starting with mixtapes, Archie eventually graduated to vinyl where he developed a fascination for the art form. It was here that Archie set about developing his turntablism skills. Developing his ear as well as his mixing and scratching skills, his first ever debut set in the rave seen back in 1994 was an indicator even then that Archie was a stand out in the national scene as a DJ of immense abilities. With an ever expanding varied taste towards all forms of music from rock to trance, house and hiphop, Archie soon came to understand music as The Universal Language. This was especially translated to him whilst at a rave where Archie’s ears were first tuned onto hardcore. Finding similarities between the compounding beats of hardcore and hiphop, Archie set about exploring the dimension of the harder side of dance. His move to Sydney firmly cemented the fact to Australia that DJ Archie was a name to be reckoned with. Landing the plum residency at Australia’s number 1 Club Night, Sublime @ Home with a signing to Australia’s longest enduring independent record company Central Station Record Label proved that the Artful Dodger was destined for the limelight. Featuring on the long-lasting Central Energy Compilations aswell as a contributor for the National Aria Dance Chart, Archie’s beats have extensively stained the underground airwaves and dancefloors of Australia. Particularly, Friday night Home goers have long deified Archie as the demigod of hard dance, acknowledging his sublime scratching skills as an embellishment of his superpowers.
Many performances alongside major names signalled the atmospheric rise of Archie’s star, leading to a prolific gig schedule. It was at one of these many performances that Archie’s unique style of scratching bought him to the attention of Endorphin. This unofficial audition would lead him to the Sydney studio where the electronica band was recording. Here, Archie was then whisked away across Australia and onto international stages, performing as a distinctive dimension for the band. His skills have been paraded before an eight thousand crowd supporting Moby, and as far reaching as South America. Spending much of his time in the studio, Archie’s taste for the production process became a predilection. Working on the remix of Sex & Violence lead to the opening track for Bexta’s 2002 Gold Mixology album. With such remarkable success under his belt, Archie is keen to explore the greater depths of music theory in order to fine hone his already substantial production skills. Without a doubt, Archie’s unique skills mark him as a highly ranking Australian DJ determined to take his beats across the world.
